Subtype for spat5.pan

hi Thibaut,
can you give me some insight about what’s exactly happens in spat5.pan when you set /panning/subtype to “diffuse”.

The object doesn’t take source coordinates input, compares to “direct” and i would need to understand then what it actually does inside in this mode, and what corresponds the outlet gains to,
thx!

Hi Eric,

Well, the term “diffuse panning” is kind of an oxymoron.
This mode distributes the N uncorrelated output channels of the late reverb~ (typically N=8 or 16) to the L loudspeakers, in order to create a spatially diffuse (= isotropic) sound field.
It’s somewhat the opposite of “direct” mode.

Best,
T.

thx, well noted.
