If I’m going to render in 5th order HOA, is there any advantage to using the spat5.hoa object over the spat5.pan object or are they in effect identical? I guess I’m a bit confused by the word “similar” in the documentation…

Sorry for the confusion.
spat5.pan~ is a generic module that supports any kind of panning.
spat5.hoa.encoder~, as the name suggests, only support HOA encoding.
When spat5.pan~ is configured in HOA mode, it operates as spat5.hoa.encoder~. Under the hood, it’s the same algorithm.
