Spat & OSC

I don’t own spat so far. I work a lot with the HOA library with was cool too so far for what i needed. But I was wondering to jump to spat especially for the 3D aspect… I have a project coming up in sphere/dome with 39 surround points.

Just a question. I want to be able to fully control live my spat patch with OSC. I assume, there is no problem regarding this? since i don’t have it, i can’t test i,… and pitty, there’s no demo version

let me know,
eric

Hi Eric, it’s super simple. When you install spat, you’ll have a Spat.Overview in you ‘Extras’ menu. In the rightmost column you will see a tutorial called ‘remote control’. I use this method together with the UDPsend / receive from the berkley CNMAT collection (to receive OSC into max). It works like a charm.

I just tried to make a spat object and spat.oper with 39 sources… it seems to work fine though I did not test it with sound. ‘happy patching’ :wink:

by the way, for some strange reason there is no ‘exit presentation view’ button in the ircam tutorials, it’s really annoying. You can exit presentation view, and copy the patcher by pressing ALT+CMD+E (on a mac, don’t know the shortcut on windows).

hi lassmunk,

thanks for replying! do you know the HOA library? it works well with the UDPsend too. I was wanting to get the same possibility here. I read that osc is not implemented in the vst so far… but i see, that’s only for the vst :wink:

damn, if what you say is true about presentation mode, that must be really annoying!

no problem! when I wrote annoying, it was like ‘ah damn, i forgot my coffee and now it’s cold annoying’. hehe… anyway - it just took me a few minutes to figure out the thing about the shortcut, and then everything was fine. Just don’t understand why the work-flow buttons are hidden in those help-patchers. It’s slower.

No i havn’t had the possibility to try HOA (or really to hear it!) yet. But I really do want to. Hopefully I will have my hands on a lot of loudspeakers beginning from august - then I want to make theater and dance performances with multichannel setups.

Would like to hear about what you are doing with it! do you post video / sound somewhere / write about your setups?

hey lassemnk,

that’s cool… love the shortcuts too :slight_smile:

thanks for questioning about my work you can take a look on the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwsyBhM3PpA you will see the space, the dome i mentioned. Impressive no? i’m only on sound, and will developp a new piece by the end of this year,

My setup right now, is sources (software, pre produced, computer synthesis etc) running to max (with hoa library http://www.mshparisnord.fr/hoalibrary/en) going into the soundsystem. I use Jack router btw all apps inside the computer.

i am returning your question, send me your stuff!
