Is Spat compatible with Max 9? I cannot load basic examples with Max 9 but can with Max 8.
Or is this because of conflicts between packages? I have several packages (nn~, MUBU, Somax) in my packages folder for Max 9, but nothing for Max 8.
I’m working with a MacBook Air M1 MacOs 17.7.7.
An old post in this forum says that Spat is not compatible with ARM native mode, Is that still so?
Hello tsuyoshi,
Spat is compatible with Max 8 and Max 9, both on Intel and ARM platforms.
So that should work on your system (although I think there is a mistake in your OS version 17.7.7 !)
Can you further describe your problem ? Is Spat in your Max 9 package folder, or in your search path ? Are you using a recent version of Spat ?
Best,
T.
Thanks for your answer. Yes it’s 14.7.7. And the problem occurs when I try to load a tutorial patcher (for ex. spat5.tuto-basic-1), it freezes (a rainbow circle continues to turn).
Spat was in the Max 9 package folder. I also made a search path to it.
And with Max 8, I made a search path to Spat in the Max 9 package folder and it worked with Max 8. Then I moved Spat to the Max 8 package folder and made a search path to it, it works with Max 8.
Spat version is 5.3.5

Hum…
When Spat is in the Max9 Package folder, it is not necessary to add it to the search path (the Package folder is automatically in the search path).
Anyway, the freeze is strange. Also strange that things work properly in Max8 (and not Max9)…
-
Could you try to open another patcher in Max9 ? For instance, any patcher from spat5/help folder.
-
If not working, I suspect a problem with your Max9 installation. Could you maybe try to re-install Max9.
I might also be necessary to delete the Max9 preferences. They are located in :
~/Library/Application Support/Cycling '74/Max 9 -
Finally, if the freeze still occurs, it might be useful to get a ‘spindump’ of the frozen application (Max9) and send it to us so we can analyse the issue.
Google “how to create a spindump on macOS” and you’ll get easy tutorials on how to collect a spindump (it’s easy)

Hallo
- Some work (spat5.abs2rel.maxhelp), others don’t (spat5.adm.room~.maxhelp)…
- I re-installed. But I cannot find the folder Cycling '74 in ~/Library/Application Support/. And it didn’t change.
- I send the ‘spindump’ file.
Spindump.zip (737.5 KB)
Best wishes

PS.
By the way, it works with Max 8 sofar.
Dear Tsuyoshi,
I’m sorry, I still dont understand what’s going on with your Max9 application…
Regarding “~/Library/Application Support/” : if macOS Finder, you can type “command+shift+G” and then paste ~/Library/Application Support/
This will get you to the Application Support folder. There, you should see a “Cycling '74” containing subfolders for Max8, Max9, etc. You could backup the Max9 folder (just in case), and then trash it.

I hope this might help…

Dear T.
The problem is that I can go to the ~/Library/Application Support/ folder but can’t find “Cycling '74”.
Neverthless my preferences of Max 9 is saved : I can change, quit the application, restart and changing is still there. I will contact the support.
Best wishes,
Tsuyoshi
Dear T,
Thanks a lot, the problem is resolved. My mistake was to go to the folder of logged disk (/Library/Application Support/) and not to that of logged account (~/Library/Application Support/). Deleting the Max 9 folder and resetting the preferences resolved my problem.
Thank you again.
Best,
Tsuyoshi
Thanks for letting us know.
Glad to hear that your problem is resolved !
Cheers,
