Spat and Isis

@tcarpentier, I wondered if you or anyone else on the forum had any experience or tips for using Spat to spatialise the mono output files created by ISiS?

I’m working on a piece which involves creating the illusion of a singer moving around the projection space - for example, walking up and down the sides and across the back of the audience. This is already sounding pretty convincing on both a 7.1.4 speaker setup and binaurally, but my understanding of reverb settings, in particular, is pretty limited, so I would be keen to hear any recommendations of things that would be worth experimenting with in order to achieve this aim.

So far, besides adjusting room reverberance, room reverb/roomsize, room reverb/min, source pres and source prer to taste, the principal ‘realism’ adjustment I’ve made to the default settings has been to reduce aperture to about +12…

Hello Jonathan,

Looks like you’ve already adjusted the most significant parameters !

Good to know: the size and range of the rotary sliders (perceptual factors) in spat5.oper give an indication of their perceptual importance (i.e. source presence and room presence are the primary factors).

In general – but even more when working with voices – I find that distance and directivity (i.e. aperture+yaw) are very useful and convincing.

Hope this helps,
T.

Thanks! Good to know indeed.
