OM doesn’t launch

This article looks like the same problem.

I did the same action as you wrote above, deleted the preference.lisp file. But still my OM does not open any workspaces.

Same for me, I have tried that as well and it’s not working any better…

Hi All,

Please be advised, the mentioned above post concerns a totally different situation and it is one years old.

However, what i assume is that most of you having these problems are on Ventura, is it the case?

Hi Karim, yes, I am currently using MacOS Ventura 13.6.4

Dear Karim,

still my OpenMusic does not work.
I tested both OM 7.3 and OM 7.4
In the list of full disk access in the system preferences of Mac OS, it appears only OM 7.4 but not again 7.3.
After the first dialog (previous workspace - cannot choose, open a workspace, create a new workspace), I chose create a new workspace. OM 7.4 does not create a workspace. OM 7.3 create it, but not open the window. Anyway, I can open the workspace window with a left click on the icon in the dock. So I created a new patch. Then, I can put lisp objects (+, list, cdr etc.) with typing, but not any OM objects both class and function. (note, chord, … OM+, arithm-seretc.), but these OM objects can put with choosing from the menu, Anyway, it works to evaluate (for example, note E4 (6400) OM+ 500 = note A4 (6900) etc.). And then, when I wanted to save the workspace, it appears the arror and it cannot save.

ERROR: No applicable methods for #<standard-generic-function |OpenMusic|::get-elements 80E0BF39DC> with args (nil)

With this situation, I can work nothing with OM ;-(
Now I am composing a symphony for large orchestra which will be premiered in next November, so I really need to calculate chord and time system with OpenMusic. (otherwise, finally it’s time to switch my algorithmic composition environment, leaving OM to Bach)

Could you give me a solution?
Thank you very much,

Takuya

Dear Takuya,

I am sorry for the troubles you are having. I don’t understand why it doesn’t work.
One thing i don’t understand is:
“I can open the workspace window with a left click on the icon in the dock. So I created a new patch.”
What Icon you are talking about here?

Can you please:

  1. Open a terminal
  2. cd Library/Preferences
  3. type: ls -la OpenMusic

send me the result.
Then can you send me the folder Library/Preferences/OpenMusic (zipped) so i can see what’s wrong here.
Certainly there is a read/write problem.

Dear Karim,
suddenly, the OM 7.4 launched well with my workspace as I have used several years. I have done solutions as I wrote above yesterday.
Anyway I will reply to your requests;

The icon of OM in the Dock of the MacOS means; (image)

the result of the terminal:

Anyway, now my OpenMusic is working well (I don’t know why).
Thank you very much Karim for checking this conversation.
If OM will not work again, I will write here.

Best,
Takuya

Dear Takuya,

Happy to know this is working now. As I said I suspect it is a permission issue.
Did you upgrade your system?

I always use 13.6.4 nothing to change the OS.
At first when you said full disk access, the OM that I add to the list was 7.3. Then you gave me 7.4. I checked again the list of full disk access. The OM on that list was automatically renamed as OM 7.4. Then that new OM 7.4 couldn’t create a new workspace. So I doubted that the name of the list of full disk access was not really 7.4, but it misrepresents “7.4” and in the reality it was 7.3…?
So, when I re-checked 2 days ago, I erased OM 7.4 the list of full disk access, and added it again with the real 7.4 application file. This is perhaps because of this, I think.

My above comment was not from my home. I was outside and wrote there by iPhone.
Now, I came back to home. I launched MacOS with Firefox and Sibelius, then OM 7.4. It blocked again!!
I restarted my Mac, then at first I started OM 7.4 without any other applications. It began well, and I can open my patches.
After that, I started also Firefox (for writing this), and Sibelius. Until now all of them work well included OM.

Again OM doesn’t launch after using 3 hours of my Mac, mainly Sibelius, Firefox and Numbers. I restart the system, then at first I launch OM, and it works now. This is a report.
