OM 7.3 freezing on ubuntu 22.04

Hello Karim,

As an experiment, I wanted to see if the issue affected OM 6.2, since I could reproduce it on both OM 7.3 and OM#, I did get a little further on OM 6.2, but it did eventually crash as well in exactly the same fashion. I seem to the issue most frequently when connecting boxes or adding new boxes. OM 6.2 mentioned a crash log, so I had a look, and it does seem to be some sort of GTK thing. I can atttach the log if you think it would be useful.

As a further experiment, I tried disabling the Nvidia graphics and running on the native Intel graphics. OM became unresponsive and crashed almost immediately. So I suspect that might not be the problem after all.

Could this possibly be relevant?

Apologies for making so many posts. I am eager to get this working and would like to help!

Dear Matyas, please do attach the log file this will be most useful

Dear Matyas,

No apologies needed  It might be the case but this doesn’t explain why i can run it on my ubuntu VM. Very strange.
Will investigate.

Thanx a lot for reporting.
Hope we’ll nail this bug…

Hello,
Apologies for taking some time to reply. I wanted to spend my small amounts of free time these last few weeks making music, rather than hunting bugs, so I’d been mostly working with OM on my old Mac!
In any case, I am attaching the crash log from my latest OM session on Linux. Note that this is OM 6.2, because I’d been trying different versions, and that happened to be what I’d been running at the time, but the behavior on OM 7.3 was identical.
Another interesting point: I did a massive system update, with a new kernel and various other system components, and OM seemed to be much more stable. In fact, I almost thought the problem was solved until it finally did crash after about an hour.
I am going to install the new 7.4 version and test. I will be sure to share my findings.

Hi,

I understand, no problem.
Indeed the log file concerns only the 6.20 version.
Can you tell me when did this crash happened? Sometimes a crash can happen due to some dynamic libraries.

Best
K

Hello Karim,
Thank you so much for your continues attention to this issue. I do not currently have any additional libraries installed. When OM 6.2 crashed yesterday, I was in the process of adding an extra inlet to an OMIF box (for an ā€œelseā€ clause). I’ve noticed that crashes do tend to happen when something is going on with the gui - adding a box, adding an inlet, setting up am OMLOOP, etc.
I did upgrade to OM 7.4 yesterday. It seems to be more stable than previous versions, but I did have one crash yesterday. I will obviously need to test further.
Thanks again!

No problem matyas,

I am concerned by this issue. I want to nail it if ican.
It seems as you say a gui issue, mostly an ā€œadding itemā€ and i suspect it is related to box+font issues.

I tried to simulate this effort on my ubuntu VM but it looks working, So very mysterious.
I promise i will keep digging!

Sorry for this
Best
K
