Microtonal playback (encore)

OM 6.13 OS High Sierra
Hi Jean again, I’ve seen fragmented answers to this issue in the archives, but it’s unclear what is the best solution at the moment:

In order to get microtonal playback active, I had to evaluate the pitchbend item below, but now all playback is transposed down by 1024 mc.
Is there a better solution to the pb patch available now? Please advise.
Thank you,
Paul

Hello Paul,
I haven’t been doing it this way since midishare stopped working, I have rather used osc-scoreplayer (selected in OM MIDI preferences) with r-udp-player. I do now also have a standalone app working on High Sierra:

The max patch is doing a similar thing, automatically splitting the notes between channels with different tunings. You have a resolution of 1/16-tones, or you can choose other options down to 1/4-tones. Midi channels from OM are interpreted as instrument numbers, while each instrument may in Fluidsynth be split in 8 channels.

Hi Ruben,
Thanks for this! I have it running with a default percussion sound and it functions nicely. Do you have a Help or ReadMe file I can look at?
Thanks again, Paul

All good now. Thank you, this is very useful.
Paul

Hi Paul,

Ruben’s solution is a good one, but if you wish to tune the MIDI system in OM, you can also use the “Auto microtone bend” option in the MIDI Preferences.
Channels shall then be detuned automatically at playing a 1/4th tone or a 1/8th tone object, then reset to normal.

Also, if you want to use the pitchwheel object for a more specific control, I’d recommend to use the new MC-TO-PITCHWHEEL box in between, and then specify the pitch bend in midicent rather than MIDI value. See updated OM Tutorial 10 for examples of that.

Best,

Jean
