Ircam reverb as standalone unit

Hi there

Sprry about this question, Im getting used to Max and I bought Spat because I love creating my own reverbs (and when they sound nice and ‘real’).

Im working in stereo and ambi mostly, would it be possible to feed the ircan reverb with a WXYZ b format signal that I can pan in Reaper previously? So i can use Spat only for the reverb, not even for the panning.

I am looking forward to hearing your thoughs.

Kindest regards
Axel

Hi Axel,

Sorry for the late reply.

It is not possible to directly feed ircam reverb with a b-format stream.
So, I can think of two options (assuming your signals are already spatialized in Reaper, and that you only want to add a diffuse reverb):

  1. feed the spat reverb with only the W-channel (omni component); make sure the direct sound is removed/muted; the output of the spat reverb will then be a diffuse late reverb
  2. decode the b-format stream onto a set of virtual speakers (evenly distributed in 2-D or 3-D) and use these virtual channels to feed ircamverb.

Dont know if that’s totally clear ?

Kind regards,
T.
