How is different HOA decoding methods different from each other? Energy preserving method sounds better than others especially when decoded to binaural using spat5.virtualspeakers~ . When to use other methods?

It’s a complex question with no easy answer.
You’ll find a description of the available decoding methods in the “methods” tab of spat5.hoa.decoder~ help patcher and reference pages. The reference pages also contain many bibliographic references.
The (very) short answer is that energy-preserving usually provides satisfactory results in most situations, and therefore it’s the default method in spat.
