Extent z as an option for elliptical movement in Spat5.oper

It seems to me that, whereas giving values to extent x and extent y starts the elliptical movement, extent z does not.

I would like to create orbits above and below the head in the z axis. N.B. I’m using Neumann KU 100. Any advice gratefully received.

At the moment I am getting around this issue by placing sources above or below the head and moving a given audio track from one to the next source position. This works but is crude in comparison to using an elliptical or circular orbit.

Is it possible to do extent z as I would wish?

Hi Russel,

Sorry but I dont quite understand your question…
Are you using the spat5.ellipse abstraction ? Or are you using the spat5.trajectories object ? Or what ?
Ellipses generated by the aforementioned tools are typically in the XY plane, so z-extent has no effect (i.e. the ellipse is planar, not 3D)
What kind of movements are you trying to achieve ?
Feel free to send a minimal patcher to illustrate your issue.

Best,
T.

Hi T,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I’m applying the spat5.ellipse bpatcher thru spat5.oper into spat5.spat.

So if z-extent has no effect then I am going to have to use my workaround.

I am trying to get some above and below effects to add to what are good XY effects in spat, hence the use of Neumann as opposed to KEMAR. This is for binaural music production as previously described.

Thanks for your help T. Always appreciated.

Regards

Russell
