Normally, as for every modalys parameter, you have to send to modalys~ a message like “object-name@young $1 $2” (two parameters because young needs that).
You can see the object name in the object’s inspector, let’s say a Plate called “Plate”.
Check the examples in the ForumMaxApps Mlys…go inside the instrument and look at how to obtain a list of all the contrllers.

young modulus is formed by a base and an exponent…
here’s what documentation says:
"The Young’s modulus of a material (also sometimes referred to as tensile modulus or elastic modulus) is measured in Pascals (N/m^2). It is a measure of the elasticity of a given material.
Higher values imply more stiffness (less elasticity) in the material, resulting in objects whose mode frequencies have a more inharmonic relationship to one another. Some materials, such as wood, will have a different Young’s modulus on different axes (i.e. along the grain, radially to the grain, and tangentially to the grain). Often, Young’s modulus is measured in gigapascals (GPa), where 1 GPa = 1.0e9 N/m^2. See the tables of material properties for appropriate values."

Actually, I’ve learned with Jean Lochard what the Young’s modulus is, but it was a almost ten years ago, and Manuel Poletti’s Mlys didn’t exist. I used to use it with Modalys in textual Lisp (now Modalisp) or in OM.

Yes, i know these graphics and the site where they were taken. This is a scientific matter.
If you need to simulate some materials, take a look at the mlys environments where you can find a file coll with the physical parameters of many materials.
Nevertheless, in practical terms, with a combination in variations of constloss and freqloss, you can obtain many kind of materials without changing main physical parameters.
[PS: A little “historical” note: while i was working at my piece “L’Apparente” (2008), I wanted to vary the material of resonators in realtime and I started to modulate freqloss and constloss. At the time they were part of the the main physical parameters as the young modulus and thickness, so varying them caused clicks or other problems.
I talked about that to Nicholas Ellis, at the time developer of modalys, and some days after he came with a new version of modalys where freqloss and constloss were separated from the calcul of main physical parameters. In this way I was able to modify them all the time and continuously without clicks ]
Well, your experience is interesting, I’ve found the coll with 9 several physical parameters. It’s wise to make a difference in between instrument parameters and environment parameters. Actually, I want to make cross synthesis with real instruments and Modalys.Then, it’s true that only one young will be enough ! So it’s really logic to keep the instrument parameters stable and changing in RT freqloss & constloss !
I will have a look about what belongs to the instrument or the environment
