Dear list,
I cannot find a good helpfile or similar for this and now I am a bit confused. I tried to start and stop processing of modalys modules. Using the nonlinear_cymbal I experimented a bit.
When I use freeze and unfreeze on the modalys~ object I can see that when I stop the model (here: ‘freeze cymbal’) there is still processing going on. Using ‘freeze Strike1’ or ‘freeze SignalController’ will totally stop the processing but it gives a few error messages:
*** ERROR: invalid argument type for function
*** ERROR: expected a modalys object
Using ‘unfreeze cymbal’ starts processing again in all situations, so this would be useable. I have the feeling though that this is not the way I am supposed to do this… I expected execute 1 or 0 to start and stop all processing but that does nothing.
In itself the fact that the cymbal stays in the situation it has been left in with freeze is totally ok. Rebuilding the instrument gave some loud sounds and I guess that it also takes some computing power, so that is not my preference.
A second question concerns clicks while changing pitch. I tried to use mlys.melt-hybrid with two identical plate configurations changing the pitch on the side that is not active and then use MeltHybrid@position to ‘smooth over’ to that transposed side. I get clicks and artefacts though. when using mlys.mix-hybrid I only get the clicks but it is still not very nice. Alternating two separate plates going back and forth works but it might not be the most elegant way and it misses the glisandi.
Best and thanks in advance, Hans.
