Sound database & Ircam solo instruments

Hi Orchid-people!

Like so many, first of all congrats on this little marvel of software engineering! It will be a huge help for many composers around!

I was fortunate to find the time to follow the streaming of the presentation, last Wednesday. During the talk, it was mentioned that there would be a version for sale somewhere in the future on a USB-memory, containing not only the app, but all the samples to preview certain orchestral combinations.

Now, my question is, is that the same version that is available on the shop-page right now? And a second question: I already own the IRCAM Solo instruments library, as well as the fantastic XSample chamber-library. Can I use those samples to build my Orchid-sound-database? And does the USB-version of Orchids come with other libraries?

Since I’m thoroughly interested, could you give some info, whether to buy the current (alpha-, I suppose)version, or to wait for that future USB-version mentioned in the talk.

Thank you so much. Composing just got infinitely more interesting
Greetings from Brussels.
Joost

Dear Joost,

Yes, the USB version will be the same than the one of the forum right now (in fact it will be the latest we have at that time) but this will feature also the sound databases for easier use.

Regarding the instruments library, our database is almost the same as IRCAM Solo Instrument, but you can of course add any sounds that you want ! It is supposedly an infinite database extension possibility (I said “supposedly”, as right now we went up to ~80.000 elements which is a lot without any trouble !) … We will try to go up to the million in the upcoming months

Regarding getting the versions, just now that we are right now fixing a major issue in the Partials computation, and will release an all-fixed version (0.9.1) before the end of this week. Anyway, I am quite sure that if you get any version, it will automatically entitle you to get all the updated versions for free !

All the best,
Philippe
