Some observations on OpenMusic Pre-Release 8.0-b.1 on LInux

Hi,

I am on Fedora 42, and I have observed some behaviours on Gnome DM. I premise that my computer is a little old, ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME B360-PLUS, Intel® Core™ i3-8100 × 4, 8,0 GiB.
Using Wayland as window manager the keep listener in front option does not run, and selecting a cable into a patch it does not change its aspect. If I do the same on X Org everything runs.
Instead the Preferences window can not be resized in both WMs (but I don’t remember if it occurred also before).
I hope this can be somehow useful.

Ciao

Fabio

Dear Fabio,

Some answers here:
But let me start with a question:
Which version are we talking about?

  • By experience, the i3 chip is a little bit limit in performance.

  • I don’t use wayland but still on X11 and I avoid gnome. I would prefer something like xfce which is lighter on resources but all this are personal choices. In fact personally i use 3wm and very happy with it.

  • The Om preference window doesn’t resize. It was always meant to stay that way. However, as the preferences are growing, i am implementing an extra scroller.

However the i am curious to know more about the connection issue. But this also depends on the Om version you are using. Because i fixed this already in the next 8.0 version to com out very soon.

Please don’t hesitate to specify all this

Dear Karim,

Thank you for the reply. I take the opportunity for another observation, but I must first specify that I think it is a fault of my system, because in updating to Fedora 42 I have realized some general weaknesses, mainly in graphic rendering, and a total slowness of the system.

Anyway, today I have realized that opening the mixing console for fluid, the slider were not visible, but clicking into the empty space and using the arrows was possible to adjust the midi volume value.

I am speaking about the version installed by the openmusic-8.0b.1-1.x86_64.rpm packet. Probably these observations are surpassed, but I hope equally useful.

Ciao

Fabio

P.S.

As soon as I have some time I will test a lighter WM, I had done it in precedent configuration, now I must reinstall it. Thank you for the suggestion.
