Plotting Accelerandi

I am attempting to build a patch that will map a series of durations in time with a variable tempo. As a simple example, if I have four notes of 1000ms each, heard across an accelerando between 60bpm and 120bpm, the notes will be notated as getting longer to ensure they continue to sound at 1000ms as the tempo increases.

I have been trying to set the changes of tempo using the BPC and BPF objects in OM, going into an omquantify and a POLY, but it only takes the first tempo. I am looking into the tempo-map object, but I am aware that it only takes the tempo at each barline, rather than as a continuous increase/decrease over time. Is there a way of doing this in OM or in any similar software that you know of? I have also tried to do this with a maquette, but as far as I can tell, the metric ruler in a maquette (while it can change time signature), remains at t he same tempo throughout. Am I right in thinking that?

Ultimately, I want to be able to superimpose a number of long accelerandi/rallentandi to create larger structures (which will no doubt mean using a maquette), but for now, is there any way of getting OM to plot these kinds of tempo relationships with a given set of durations?

Hi Steve,

Here some bits of solutions.

Hi Karim, thank you so much for this! I’m sure with a couple of tweaks I can get this to do exactly what I’m after. I’ll post the final patch here when I’m done; I’d love to hear your opinion!

Best wishes,

Steve
