OpenMusic through Fourier Space

Hi,

I’ve recently started reading works on the music-theoretical applications of the Discrete Fourier Transform.

Has the DFT been implemented in a OpenMusic library somewhere, somehow? And if not, what would be the best LISP implementations of it to run in OM that you might know of?

Any hints or insights on this issue would be much appreciated.

All the best,
António

Dear Antonio,

I have found implementations in lisp here:

and here:

Just curious, what do you intent to do with it ?

Hi Karim,

Thank you for the links, it makes everything so much easier. And to answer your question… I’ve just barely dipped my toes in the water on this, but I’d like to start developping some DFT-based LISP functions and methods in OM to connect the Spectral and the Modal/Tonal idioms, as both analytical and compositional tools.

This has all been heavily inspired by Emmanuel Amiot’s treatise on this subject, Clifton Callender’s work in “Continuous Harmonic Spaces”, and Jason Yust’s “Harmonic Qualities in Debussy’s ‘les sons et les parfums…’”, among others.

Amidst this health crisis, I hope you’re doing well. Stay safe.

All the best,
António
