Multiple Play Options per Window

Hello again, with an interface critique.

I think only one playback option should be enabled at a time. It’s easy to get both the target playback and the solution playback playing simultaneously. It’s confusing. It would make more sense for Orchids to halt playback of any other audio sources when another play option is selected.

Other than that I appreciate how non-modal the interface is. It seems possible to perform a number of actions in the interface while an orchestration is being calculated. Nice, given how long Orchestrate can take to do a multi-target calculation.

Salut,

Kenneth.

Dear Kenneth,

That was actually a feature request by our original composers user group, and we agreed with the idea, which is to be able (only if asked) to try to listen to the target along with the solutions. This allows to compare the different aspects of a target sound with the various solutions proposed. This can give a good impression of what parts of the sound were rightfully optimized by the algorithm.

Regarding multi-target calculation, we’ll be working on the speed optimization. However, “multi-target” is a very alpha, simple and unstable mode. Maybe you can have more precise solutions by working with chunks of the target (using the selection window on the target or the partials), and then performing the “macro-articulations” inside the maquette ? (which also gives a more interactive process)

All the best,
Philippe
