MIDI setup problems in OM 6.9

Hello,
I have no midi sound in any Scores classes after upgrading to OM 6.9
I re-install Midi-Share 1.92, checked the parameters, I don’t know why
It doesn’t work either when I change the players (OM-Midi, midi-share or micro player) that are all install

I’m using Yosemite

Thanks

Hi,

try here…

Hi Nadir,
I can’t see the attachments file

Hey. Can you try using the new OM Midi Player? Just make sure through the preferences and choose portmidi. The open the devices window, etc. Then select a score object and right-click and go to Player. Then choose OM Midi player…

here’s the attachement
Gato’s way works too

Thanks
So Nadir I still don’t have your picture,
Goncalo I tried but in the listener I have that: "PortMIDI ERROR: port 0 is not connected. Check MIDI preferences to connect MIDI devices "

Hi,

what’s wrong with that ! I can see the attachement now on the forum !
Anyway…

here you go http://support.ircam.fr/docs/om/om6-manual/co/MIDI-Ports.html
go to OM midi prefs -> click on ports/devices -> set port 0 to Quicktime synth or any device you’ve installed and set in your general midi prefs and so on…

bye

He doesn’t propose me no Quicktime synth or anything, it’s just blank in the Outputs devices

There are probably some settings to make in the OM Preferences / MIDI
(see http://support.ircam.fr/docs/om/om6-manual/co/MIDI-Ports.html)

You can also choose not to use midishare but portMIDI (also from the preferences)
in this case you will need to have a MIDI synthesizer connected

Jean

Hi Jean,
I have the same problem
I tried to use midishare, to use portMidi etc…
Nothing change no sound

it seems midishare isn’t installed properly… follow the instructions on the OM product page.

in the meanwhile, if you’re on mac : go to your laptop’s Audio Midi prefs -> Midi window -> double click on IAC manager -> add some ports : Bus IAC 1…
-> re-launch OM -> it should appear in OM port/device outputs -> set port 1 to Bus IAC 1 -> it allows you to connect and play OM score objects through an external instrument like kontakt or simplesynth (set their own ports to Bus IAC 1 + channel N° if needed)

hope it’s clear

Windows Microsoft ?

I’m on a mac,
I add a port etc…
It doesn’t show up in the OM preferences…

you’re in a big trouble ! i’m kidding

this time an OM developer might help you with this…

take care

Hi everybody,

It seems there are a couple of similar issues here with the MIDI system in OM 6.9, so I have merged the different forum threads together.

The new portMIDI option was supposed to solve a couple of problems but it mostly appears to be confusing for a number of users. So, I will maybe think of another (simpler) solution, and meanwhile to provide a quick tutorial.

Jean

Hi,

just to say +1 on solving this problem. Looks like I have the same issue of Jonathan…

thanks,
g

Hi all,
here is a kind of tutorial for MIDI setup.
http://repmus.ircam.fr/openmusic/midi

please follow the steps and report when it is not clear and/or where it does not work

I have seen today on a 10.10 system that indeed no MIDI device appeared in the MidiShare setting window.
It seems to be the case for a couple of you: as suggested in the link, you can test with the msDrivers tool installed in /Applications/MidiShare to check if it is an OM or MidiShare-specific issue (in this case, I can not do much, testing different versions, restarting etc. might work…)
It’d be great if we find out what is the cause of this, but otherwise I think you can go for the “PortMidi” option and get some sounds out of your OM objects.

Best
Jean

Thank you Jean
I’m stuck in the The PortMIDI option
After downloading simple synth, adding IAC buses (LIVE can see them) they just don’t appears in the input and output devices options…
So I don’t know what to do…

Thank you Jean,

as far as I am concerned, my situation was that I saw no drivers in the OM MIDI preference window, but for reasons I don’t know, once I tested Midishare as you said and relaunched OM 6.9, I could see them back in the preferences. So now Midishare works fine!

Thanks again,
Gabriele

@Jonathan:

  1. Is there any non-standard character(s) in the name of you IAC buses ?
  2. Did you try to restart OM ?
  3. Can you see at least the “SimpleSynth virtual input” in the list of output drivers ?
