What is the current status of the MuBu package regarding current MacOS versions? Due to other issues I’m having with my computer, I’m contemplating updating my OS (I’m on 10.12.6 Sierra), but of course I don’t want to wind up breaking anything. Could you let me know if it’s safe to upgrade without breaking MuBu?

It seems that the only important difference between Sierra and High Sierra is APFS (which you’re not obliged to use when upgrading and which is said to be fully compatible with HFS). Neither the feature list of Mojave prefigures anything what could break compatibility with Max or MuBu. If you prefer to be on the safe side, prepare for a fallback (search the web for “macos downgrade”).
