Hi,
I have been testing FluidSynth on Mac with OM7.5, and it works well, also using the auto load and the auto microtune features. However, on Windows, it seems that the auto microtune doesn’t work, and using the pitch-wheel object is still necessary. Is that normal?
Thanks, and happy new year to all!
Jimmie
Hi Jimmie,
No it is not normal. Will look into it and will be back hopefully with a fix
Best Wishes
K
Dear Jimmie,
thank you for reporting this. In fact it was a typo in the code that didn’t send the right message when using quarter tones and wasn’t Windows related.
So it is fixed in the patch that you find here:

Hi again,
Finally, it doesn’t seem to work with the patch_070125.lisp file either. Was this the right one, and should it actually have been copied to the init folder in the application program files?
In case it can help, I attach the computer and operating system info.
Best,
Jimmie
Hi,
Yes this patch replaces all other “official” patches.
Can you send the patch that doesnt work please?
Did you restart OM?

Hi Karim,
Here is the patch, and yes, OM and the whole computer have been restarted after having added the patch.

Jimmie

Dear Jimmie,
I don’t mean this patch, but your patch where the object doesn’t work…
Hi karim,
I will ask to the person who is doing tests for me on Windows. In the meantime, as far as I know, it’s only that the auto-microtune option doesn’t work, but when doing the pitch-wheel procedure, then it works.
Best,
Jimmie
Dear jimmie,
Please let the person report directly to me. It will be more efficient i believe

Hi Karim,
Thanks for your note, but I’ll keep handling this, since this is in preparation for my teaching next week!
And in the meantime, things got even stranger, here is a short troubleshooting history:
-
First try with the Windows patch on Mac: Curiously enough, this patch wasn’t working on Mac either, but all my other patches (Mac) did work flawlessly (with autoload and auto microtune selected).
-
After a reboot, with the same settings, neither patch works. After a few trials and errors, I see that if I just switch one chord-seq EDO setting from 24 to 48, then everything works well, in both patches. Actually, I can then move back to EDO24, and it’s fine. It’s as if this switching was activating the microtune feature.
What is bizarre is that before importing the patch made on Windows, everything was just working fine with my own patches on Mac.
- Last but not least, I just did the test of shutting down the whole computer and reboot everything, and when the patches open with chord-seqs already set to 48EDO, everything works fine, but if they have been saved at 24EDO, then I have to do the ’switch’ mentioned above at #2 to reactivate the microtune. I did the full routine twice, it’s consistent.
To be noted that the chord-seq are using quarter-tones only, so EDO24 should normally work.
Best,
Jimmie

Dear Jimmie,
Thank you for posting the patches.
I have tested them with the patch_070125.lisp file and your patches do sound good with auto tune without changing the tuning.
But let us be clear here. The file patch_070125.lisp is to be put in the init folder that is inside the OM 7.5.app. Are you sure it is there. Once it is copied (make sure it is not an alias! Because in Mac if you just drop the file, it will give an alias. you should copy&paste the file inside this folder.
In the widows OpenMusic 7.5 application you should put the file in C:/Program Files/OpenMusic 7.5/init/
I tested it on both plateforms and the autotune works with no problem using this file.
Note that youi should restart OM after that. No need to reboot the computer.
Keep me posted
Best
Karim
Dear Karim,
Thanks for all this. As far as I know, everything was done as described here, so the problem is surely due to something else. As soon as I get the chance to test the same thing with another Windows user, I’ll report here if there’s anything that is still not working.
All best,
Jimmie
Ok,
First check OM’s version. It should be 7.5
Then check there are no extra code in the init file of the application besides the ‘patch_070125.lisp’ file.
