Exporting/representing microtonal content

Hello all.

I’ve generated quite a lot of material that features 1/3rd and 1/8th tones and it would be great if I were able to export these graphically so I can print them out, add them to documents, and so forth.

I’ve found that lilypond doesn’t support 1/3rd tones (I might be wrong about this - I’m completely lost by the software), and I’ve resorted to taking screencaps of my score objects. Not ideal!

If anyone has any ideas of how to better address this, then I would be very grateful to hear them.

All best,
N

Hi N,

Great remark!
The problem comes in 2 parts :

  1. The mircotonal representation in OM is due to Professor Carlos Agon, (the godfather of OM). And so these are somehow experimental. So they are not standard. Personally I find them really great and practical. This of course concerns non standard microtones such as 1/7 1/5 and even 1/16th. The 1/8 th are even non standard up till now.

  2. Second problem are the Fonts issue. The OM microtones fonts were made for OM. So the BIG problem, is that they are not available for Lilypond, since lily uses Feta fonts which are great by the wY!. I am personally a fan and a regular user of lilypond.
However, i think there’s a way to implement them in LIly. This would be great.
But the problem still stands, that these are not used by everybody, and you need some programing to make (in lily).

Yes, i beleive we have still a long road to GO
