Error message by opening patch (after crash)

Hello!

After force-quitting open music (by no responding), I could not open this patch again, because of an error message.
I wonder if there are anything I could do to check and rescue this patch?

Thank you very much for your help or idea!

When I’ve seen this problem, I usually need to close OM, find the patch file, and open it in a text editor (make a copy of it first just to be safe). I then look for the typo (in my case, it’s usually a Chord-Seq or such with text typed in where there should be numbers (for example, for loudness)). I correct the typo, then save the patch file. then I re-open OM and things are OK.

Hi zipzappoozoo, thank you very much for sharing the experience! In this case it could be a bit complicated, there are almost 1M of text to check. I will try it, thanks again!

Yeah, in my case, I knew exactly what I typed that made OM go haywire.

If you don’t know what caused it, could be much more difficult.

Hi Jialinliu,

In your case, it seems that the patch you have attached is not fully saved, so incomplete. Unfortunately when OM have quit, this was partially saved. Please can you inform us:

  1. Which OM version ?
  2. What OS?
  3. do you have a former working patch?

Reminder: You should always save your Workspace (ctrl/cmd +s) frequently.

Therefore i must assume that the reason of this “crash” is unknown. It could be that it is not related to a special character, but for example an out of memory issue, or such,

Best
K

Dear Karim,

Thank you for response!
I am using OM6.16, MacOS10.15.5, and yes, there are some similar patches so that I have recovered it this morning.
Some patches are even larger like 34M, because I used block mode to store a lot of data in the patch, so it takes much time to save and sometime stopped. I will make more backup and less block mode while patching. Thank you for the help!

Best,
Jialin
