Given that OM is based on Common Lisp, is there any merit in learning CL as a means to increasing one’s understanding of OM programming? Or does OM hide too much of the underlying operation of CL to make it worthwhile?

Of course, learning CLOS will give you an increasing understanding of OM, allowing you even to create new methods, functions etc…
