AS Formant Analysis Compatibility (via SDIF)

Hello,

Apologies if this is something more obvious than I’ve managed to uncover. Can anyone describe some “normal” procedure for getting a formant analysis from AudioSculpt into MaxMSP? I have worked with SDIFs before but mostly 1TRC, and I’m having little success with the frames generated from a formant analysis. My hope is to use such an analysis to construct a filter using the CNMAT resonators~ object, using a “prepend formant-form” object and sending it a list of frequency, amplitude (dB), BW tuples.

Is the AS formant analyses compatible with CNMAT’s SDIF-buffer and SDIF-tuples, for instance? These tools tell me the analysis is of frame type 1REB, though SDIF-tuples generates errors at time points such as “no frame of type 1REB at time x…” (even when using their message to find the nearest frame to a given time point).

I have also tried loading these formant analyses into MUBU objects, but can neither retrieve the data there. Is there a solution using any of these tools? Perhaps it can be accessed using FTM as an alternative?

Hello Louis,

I am not knowing the procedures for getting SDIF into MaxMSP, so I will not be able to help you with this. If the problem is on that side you probably should ask your question in the Mubu list.

On the other hand there may be a problem wit your analysis, so if there is no data present in the SDIF file you will not be able to open anything. Have you checked that the file contains indeed 1REB frames and the related 1RES matrices? If those exist then it should be rather straight
forward to see those in mubu (besides for me because I don’t know MaxMSP). If you don’t know how to check the content of the generated SDIF you may either attach it here or send it to me directly. (roebel at ircam.fr)
