Xp 1.30

A quick message to share some updates about XP

This past year has been a bit challenging. We chose to wait for Ableton and Cycling ’74 to stabilize their major releases before making significant progress on an update. With Max 9 now out, bringing fantastic new features, we were excited — until we realized Live 11 will never support Max 9, and many in our community are still using Live 11. Just a glimpse of the balancing act we’ve been managing!

BUT here’s the good news: we’ve made significant progress on an update — version 1.30. It’s not a brand-new version, so all XP users will get it at no additional cost when it’s released.

While it’s technically only an update, il will come with major improvements and changes, starting with a complete UI redesign and many new features. We’ve worked hard to create a cleaner, more elegant interface based on users feedbacks

And that’s just the beginning! I’ll keep sharing updates and insights regularly leading up to the official release, which I hope will happen in early 2025.
Until then, take care!

It’s time to share more about the new update.

This update introduces many changes, including fixes and new features. To give you a sense of the overall direction, while Xp 1.20 delivered everything as an all-in-one package, we’re now embracing a more modular approach.

One great example of this shift is the new Xp.rec device. Previously integrated within xp.engine, Xp.rec is now a specific device. This means you can simply drop it alongside xp.engine whenever you want to record. Setting it up is straightforward: configure it, hit record, and you’re ready to go.

With Xp.rec, you can simultaneously capture the sound field, ambisonic components (if you’re using an ambisonic spatialization type), or binaural audio.

Let’s continue our short overview, and please welcome one new device in the upcoming package : xp.source.simply

As the name suggests, xp.source.simply is a streamlined version of xp.source, designed with a functional and intuitive interface. Think of it as a straightforward panner that creates a basic sound source without reverb or other perceptual elements—just pure sound attenuation with distance, which you can easily adjust using the parameters to the right of the panner.

It has quickly become our go-to tool for creating sound points effortlessly, especially when we don’t need all the advanced features that make Spat so versatile and delightful. 😉

Stay tuned—there’s lots more exciting news coming your way soon!

We started a playlist on the youtube channel where we will gather more short videos about Xp 1.30.

In the playlist, we just added a short one about how to get started with Xp 1.30 in demo mode. It’s very simple, and remember, in demo, you can create only up to 3 sound sources.

Have a look here :

Sorry this one has no sound, but we’ll make up for it with the next one: how to record with xp.rec

You may not have noticed, but with Xp 1.30 you can set your own navigation shortcuts, and save them as your preferences.

To access the menu, from Xp, press “command + p”

Real time Recording with Xp

The xp.rec plugin allows you to record your current sound-field, encoded Ambisonics components (if your spatialization type is set to HOA) and binaural audio.

To get started, place xp.rec alongside xp.engine in your project.
Set your desired file name, choose the type of output you want to record, and press Rec.

The plugin will then record in real-time everything you do in Ableton Live that passes through xp.engine, the multichannel bus.
